With the entry into force of EU Regulation No. 2024/886 on Instant Payments on 9 January 2025, fees for executing instant payments have been aligned with those applied to domestic and cross-border payment transactions in euros.
Instant payments are transactions in which funds are transferred from the payer's account to the payee's account within seconds - every day of the year, including weekends and holidays (24/7/365).
As of October 9, 2025, the following rules set out in EU Regulation 2024/886 on Instant Payments will come into force:
- The payer will recieve a notification on the status of the instant payment (successful or unsuccessful) within 10 seconds of its execution;
- A verification mechanism will be introduced to check the match between the payee`s name and IBAN number in payment transaction;
- It will be possible to set a limit on the amount of an individual payment transaction (limit per transaction) or daily limits for the total amount of payments (daily limit);
- The payer will be able to execute instant payments through all banking channels – online and mobile banking, as well as at bank branch counters.
Mandatory Verification of Payee (VoP)
This is a new security mechanism that will affect the execution of payment transactions, as the verification of the payer will warn if the name and account number (IBAN) of the payee do not match. Such verification will reduce the possibility of abuse, but will not completely eliminate it.
